About SwissText

SwissText is an annual conference that brings together text analytics experts from industry and academia. It is organized by the Swiss Association for Natural Language Processing (SwissNLP) in collaboration with local universities, the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW), and the data innovation alliance.

Keynote Speakers

Anna Rogers

Biography: Anna Rogers is an assistant professor at IT University of Copenhagen. She received her PhD in computational linguistics from the University of Tokyo, followed by postdocs in machine learning for NLP (University of Massachusetts) and social data science (University of Copenhagen). Her main research areas are Natural Language Processing and AI ethics, with much recent work on analysis of Transformer-based language models. She is also active in the sphere of peer review and research methodology, and serves as co-program chair of ACL 2023.

Silvia Quarteroni

Biography: Silvia Quarteroni is the Chief Transformation Officer of the Swiss Data Science Center, a joint venture between EPFL and ETH accelerating the adoption of data science in Switzerland.
Silvia leads a team of scientists collaborating with major Swiss companies and organizations to adopt data-driven solutions and wire data science in their decision making process.
As part of her background as a computer scientist and NLP researcher in at EPFL, the Universities of York (UK) and Trento (Italy), and Politecnico di Milano (Italy), she has researched question answering, dialogue systems, and more generally machine learning applied to text and speech.
During the last 10 years, Silvia has been working with several Swiss organizations as an NLP expert, data science project leader and strategic partner.

Jacques Savoy

Biography: Prof. Jacques Savoy is full Professor in Computer Science at University of Neuchatel. J. Savoy received a Ph.D. in quantitative economics from the University of Fribourg in 1987. From 1987-92 he worked on the faculty of Computer Science at the University of Montreal (Canada). His research interests cover mainly natural language processing and particularly information retrieval for other languages than English (European, Asian, and Indian) as well as multilingual and cross-lingual information retrieval. He participated from many years to various evaluations campaigns (CLEF, NTCIR and TREC) dealing with these questions. His current research interests are related to text categorization and clustering as well as authorship attribution, or author profiling. In those domains, he proposed and applied different explainable machine learning approaches.

Claudiu Musat

Biography: Claudiu Musat leads the Google Digital Ink Understanding team, focusing on ink understanding and synthesis. Current research interests include recommender systems, AI-driven UIs and UX, as well as broadly applicable NLP techniques. In the past, he led the AI collaboration between EPFL and Swisscom, and created an NLP startup in the EPFL ecosystem.

Diego Antognini

Biography: Diego Antognini is a research scientist at IBM Research AI working on efficient machine learning and low-resource settings for NLP. He received his Ph.D. from EPFL where he developed models to infer high-quality explanations from text documents in a scalable and data-driven manner via selective rationalization. He also designed new models to make explanations actionable (called critiquing) and examined two important applications in NLP and conversational recommendation systems. Current research interests include efficient ML, self-supervision, knowledge distillation, text understanding, explainable AI, and [conversational] [explainable] recommender systems. Finally, he teaches deep learning for NLP at the Lucerne Univesity of Applied Sciences.
